High-quality friend

The self-improvement component of my mission statement:

Be a high-quality friend, uplifting others & sharing knowledge.

Everything I know about this subject comes from my dearest friends. I don't want to invent unrealistic (or worse, unambitious) goals for myself, and letting admiration be my guiding principle gives me the confidence of knowing that someone else in my life has achieved the same goal.

Here are a few traits of high-quality friends I've identified so far. This list will continue to grow & evolve over time:

• They are interested in what their friends are doing.
• They balance listening and participating in conversations.
• They work to improve the lives of those around them.

I don't expect myself to reach this bar for quality with everyone I know, nor am I aiming for some quota of high-quality friendships. Rather, this goal merely serves as a playbook for developing the friendships I have.
